As I am writing these lines, institutional developments on both sides of the Atlantic have shown, once again, how complex the interplay of federalism and democracy is. In the European Union, the European Parliament election in June 2024 marked the beginning of the 2024-2029 institutional cycle. The results of the latest European election are not easy to decipher.
